What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is an effective body shaping method that targets stubborn fat deposits that cannot be eliminated with diet and exercise. It allows the body to achieve a thinner, smoother and more aesthetic appearance by removing regional fat with the help of vacuum. Liposuction is not a weight loss method; it aims to reduce resistant fats especially in areas such as the abdomen, waist, hips, legs, knees and neck.

This procedure is frequently preferred by both women and men. Liposuction is the second most popular aesthetic operation in men after nose surgery. Liposuction is generally a procedure aimed at correcting body contours and patients can experience a fat loss of approximately 10-15 kg after the procedure.

How is Liposuction Performed?

The liposuction procedure begins by first inflating the fat tissues with a special liquid called tumescent injection. This procedure facilitates the absorption of fats. Fats are vacuumed and removed from the body with the help of thin metal tubes (cannulas) placed through small incisions. Liposuction techniques are applied to correct body contours and obtain a smooth skin surface. The procedure continues until the desired body shape is reached.

Things to Consider Before Liposuction

Before liposuction, it is important that you have reached your ideal weight and are not overweight. Also, if you smoke, you should quit at least two weeks before the procedure. Smoking can negatively affect the healing process. Blood thinners, vitamins and some supplements should be stopped under the supervision of a doctor. These precautions ensure that the surgery is safe and effective while accelerating the healing process.

Healing Process After Liposuction

During the healing process after liposuction, you will need to wear a special corset to support your body shape and reduce swelling. Mild swelling, bruising, tingling and burning sensations may be experienced for a few weeks after the surgery, but these symptoms will decrease over time. Small scars formed at the cannula entry points become invisible within 2-6 months. Following the doctor’s instructions accelerates the healing process and prevents complications. It is recommended not to smoke for the first month, as smoking can slow down the healing process.

Who is Liposuction Suitable For?

Liposuction is suitable for people who have stubborn fat deposits in certain areas of their body and are at their ideal weight. This procedure targets fat deposits that cannot be eliminated with diet and exercise and gives the body a more balanced, aesthetic appearance.
